Dr Kouimtsidis, MBBS, MSc, FRCPsych, CCST, PhD is a Consultant in Mental Health and Addiction Psychiatry since 2002 at the National Health Service of the United Kingdom. He does private work at the London Psychiatry Centre (since 2012). He is currently an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London (since 2016) and at St Andrew’s University, Scotland (since 2018). Prior to this he has been a lecturer and later Senior Lecturer at St George’s University Medical School. He was the National Coordinator for addressing Drugs of Greece (2019-2024). 

He has received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the University of Patras, Greece (2022), the Gold CARE Leader Award (2016) and the prestigious UK 2015 HSJ Award for Clinical Research Impact with the Research and Development Department. He is currently the co-chair of the International Society of Addiction Medicine Practice and Policy Interest Group.

During the past 20 years he has been involved with several epidemiological, qualitative and clinical Randomized Controlled Trials. During the past 10 years in collaboration with several UK Universities he has been the Chief Investigator for National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) trials such as the first ever study of alcohol intervention for people with learning disabilities and most recently the SPADe study (Structured Preparation before Alcohol Detoxification). He has published 3 books and chapters in other books. He has published more than 60 peer reviewed papers and he participated as a keynote speaker or symposium organiser in several UK and international conferences.
